THE TIMES IN OUR LIVES
by Eugene
Our lives are governed by time. Not the time of a watch or a clock, or even the time of a bus or train, but in periods..............
There is a time to be born,
from warmth and security,
through pain and trauma,
into cold insecurity.
There is a time to be a baby,
cosseted, pampered, protected.
To drool, to crow, to laugh.
To cry, to sleep. to grow.
A time for learning to walk, to talk.
Potty training, nappies, nasty foods.
New experiences, new tastes.
A time to prepare for a life ahead.
A time for school, for learning.
Reading, writing, arithmetic.
Rugby, cricket, mocking the girls.
Frills, lace, dolls and giggles.
Soon a time for science, mathematics, chemistry.
New beards on boys, new curves on girls.
A time of long trousers, pretty dresses.
The touch of a hand, the glance of an eye.
A time of innocence, all too short.
A time of shyness, of awakening emotions.
A time of dating, of young love.
A time of heartbreak, of tears.
A new adult arises from the child that was,
The time has come.
Decisions to be made,
careers to be planned.
Time for the spreading of wings,
leaving the nest, tasting life fully.
A lifetime stretches ahead,
a lifetime full of laughter and joy.
A time to find the one true love,
The one worthy of sharing a life to the end.
A time of love and romance,
a time for commitments for the life ahead.
Now comes a time of young parenthood,
a time to restart the clock.
Time has come a full circle,
Both the beginning and the end.
A time to live,
a time to die.
A time to be young,
a time to be old.
A time to laugh,
a time to cry.
A time for love,
a time for pain.
Some times we can control,
some times control us.
Who we are, what we are,
flows from these times in our lives.
May God grant us the wisdom to recognize the times over which we have control,
the courage to control these times in such a way that we can live our lives to the full,
and the grace to accept the times over which we have no control.
